PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The Community Engagement Coordinator is a part-time position (24 hours) supervised by the Director of Education. The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the development, planning, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of the Crocker’s community outreach efforts and the cultivation of community partnerships across audience segments, such as life-long learners, children and families, youth and interest areas (education, cultural awareness support, etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Facilitates community input and participation in museum operations, exhibitions and programs;
  • Facilitates community input and participation in museum operations, exhibitions and programs; evelops and promotes museum programs and events throughout the Sacramento region by working with diverse arts organizations, community groups, neighborhood associations, city and state agencies, and interested individuals;
  • Coordinate the Crocker’s presence and programming at community festivals, outreach events, city functions, local libraries and other community sites;
  • Answer questions, distribute materials, and communicate information regarding the Crocker Art Museum and its activities at community festivals and outreach events;
  • Create, prepare and conduct art-making workshops for community events and outreach related to the Crocker’s collection and/or special exhibitions;
  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of current community/outreach programs, including Street Team, Crocker Talkers, and the Volunteer Program;
  • Develop and manage the new Crocker Community Partners Program, an evolution of the Museum’s successful Art Access program designed to engage under-served communities and establish long-term collaborative relationships;
  • Serve as the staff liaison for select active community advisory groups (Art Access Advisory Committee);
  • Support and assist in PR/marketing campaigns and the public phase of the capital campaign;
  • Provide monthly report of outreach activities/people served.

Please note that these are general areas of responsibilities and duties. A schedule of goals, which are more specific in nature, are developed during the annual Performance Appraisal process.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Customer Service─ ability to communicate clearly in one-on-one or group situations, strong presentational, networking, and promotional skills.
  • Physical requirements ─ include standing for extended periods and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Multi-Tasking ─ flexible and able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, particularly as they relate to coordinating programming at various stages of development and implementation.
  • Teaching experience ─ experience teaching a range of audiences.
  • Interpersonal Skills ─ ability to lead and work on project(s) teams and within the community.
  • Administrative ─ must be able to keep accurate records and statistics, and have math and budgetary skills.
  • Professional ─ attention to details; ability to work under deadline; ability to follow through on long and short-term projects, self-starting, energetic, organized.
  • Writing Skills:  Ability to write in clear and concise prose.
  • Computer skills ─ ability to use Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Publisher, Microsoft Office Power Point. Familiarity with FileMaker Pro and Raiser’s Edge are a plus.

PRIMARY MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees all aspects of community/outreach programs.
  • Interviews, trains and supervises volunteers and members of Street Team and Crocker Talkers.
  • Works closely with the Marketing Department to promote programs to create promotional offerings/materials for events.
  • Maintains accurate and up to date program files and administrative records.
  • Purchases, orders, and maintains any needed supplies for outreach programming.
  • Prepares program reports for all major program areas. This includes audience data, statistics, and evaluation.
  • Develops and manages programmatic budgets and keeps accurate records of same. Monitors and tracks budget revenues and expenditures staying within annual figures approved by the board.

REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE: One to two years experience in education, art, community outreach, volunteer management, sales, visitor services or related fields.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Art History, Museum/Art Education, Art Education, PR/Marketing/Communications or related fields.
SCHEDULE: This is part-time position, and evening and weekend hours are regularly assigned. Must be flexible to work a varying schedule.
TRANSPORATION: Given the outreach/community focus on this position, it is essential that the Community Engagement Coordinator be able to travel in an expedient fashion to various community sites to implement job duties.
