FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Crocker Classical Concerts feature World-Class Musicians Every Month Concerts held on Sacramento State campus due to construction at the Museum December 23, 2008 – Sacramento, Calif. – The Crocker Art Museum showcases far more than visual art. For more than 50 years, the Museum has hosted internationally renowned and talented local musicians for Crocker Classical Concerts. Due to construction for the Museum's expansion, the concerts take place on the California State University, Sacramento, campus in Capistrano Hall. Concerts are held on the fourth Sunday of every month from 3-4 p.m. and are free to members of the Crocker Art Museum, $12 for nonmembers and $5 for students and seniors. Free parking is available in Parking Structure I, which is adjacent to the Hall. The Winter-Spring 2009 season offers a varied schedule highlighting different musical periods, styles and instrumentation. On January 25, flutist Maquette Kuper will perform The Romantic Flute, a program featuring pieces by César Franck, Alphonse Duvernoy and Franz Schubert. A strong proponent of the Russian repertoire, pianist Dmitry Rachmanov will perform pieces by Schubert, Brahms, Medtner and Ravel on February 22. On March 22, concert violinist Janet Packer will demonstrate her mastery of a wide range of musical styles. She joins Pianist Anthony Padilla to perform works by Irving Fine and Franz Schubert on a 1697 Carlo Giuseppe Testore violin. Cellist and chamber musician Susan Lamb Cook and pianist John Cozza will perform pieces by Beethoven, Fauré, Rachmaninoff, Mendelssohn, Prokofiev and UC Davis composer Pablo Ortiz. This April 26th performance is donated by the Sacramento Saturday Club, one of the oldest musical organizations in the western United States. Tien Hsieh has enjoyed an international career as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician. Her performance on May 24 will include pieces by Schumann and Liszt. Robin Fisher's many recital appearances in both Europe and the United States attest to her love for the art of song. On June 28, her program, titled Songs American Style, will include works by John Duke, Aaron Copland, Rodgers & Hart and others. The Crocker Art Museum was founded in 1885 and continues as the leading art institution for the California Capital Region and Central Valley. The Museum offers a diverse spectrum of special exhibitions, events and programs to augment its collections of California, European and Asian artworks.
