Crocker Art Museum Association Appoints
Seven New Members to Board of Directors

March 15, 2010 – Sacramento, Calif. – The Crocker Art Museum Association recently appointed Rhea Brunner, James Deeringer, Dr. Alexander Gonzalez, Teresa Niello, Joseph Rodota, Robert Scarlett and Jon Stevenson to its Board of Directors.

“I am excited to have seven such distinguished individuals join the board,” said Crocker Art Museum Association president Tom Weborg. “With the expansion project coming to fruition this fall, this group of Board members brings the excitement and vision necessary to truly transform the Crocker into a cultural hub for the region.”

Rhea Brunner has lived in the Sacramento area for nearly 30 years and has been active in numerous community endeavors. She previously served as a lobbyist for the California Association of Rehabilitation Facilities for 13 years. Brunner graduated from California State University, Sacramento, with masters’ degrees in public administration and social work.

James Deeringer is a partner at Downey Brand Attorneys LLP, where his practice focuses on trusts and estates. He previously served on the boards of KVIE and the Sacramento Symphony Association. Deeringer is a graduate of UC Davis School of Law and has lived in Sacramento for more than 20 years.

Alexander Gonzalez, Ph.D. is president of California State University, Sacramento. Before assuming his current role in 2003, Gonzalez was president of California State University, San Marcos, and provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University, Fresno. He has served more than three decades as a professor of psychology and an education leader. He received a doctorate in psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Teresa Niello has served on the planning committee for the Crocker Art Museum’s Crocker Ball, the Museum’s annual black-tie gala, for several years and served as committee chair in 2009. She has also served on the fundraising boards of the Stanford Home for Children and the Little Jim Club of San Francisco. Before moving to Sacramento in 1989, she operated an interior design business in San Francisco for nearly 10 years.

Joseph Rodota is founder and CEO of Forward Observer, a strategic consulting firm. He has served as a government executive and political strategist to Govs. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pete Wilson and President Ronald Reagan. Rodota is a graduate of Stanford University.

Robert Scarlett is a retired lawyer and lobbyist. He previously served as the vice president of legislative affairs for Wellpoint, a health benefits company. Prior to that, he served as legal counsel to Willie L. Brown, Jr., then speaker of the California State Assembly. Scarlett is a native of Woodland and graduate of Stanford University and UC Berkeley School of Law.

Jon Stevenson is the owner and founder of Trumpette, an upscale baby clothing line he founded in San Francisco nearly 20 years ago. Stevenson has a boutique locally in the Pavillions shopping center, and Trumpette products are sold in Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Barneys New York worldwide. He is a graduate of La Atonoma de Artes Plasticas in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

The Crocker Art Museum was established in 1885 and continues as the leading art institution for the California Capital Region and Central Valley. The Museum offers a diverse spectrum of special exhibitions, events and programs to augment its collections of California, European and Asian artworks. The Crocker is located at 216 O Street in Downtown Sacramento. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday; 1st & 3rd Thursdays until 9 p.m. Free admission on Sundays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. is made possible through the support of Bank of America.
