Birthday pARTy Themes
Make an unforgettable impression. Using inspiration from Impressionist artworks on view, children will have a fascinating time daubing colors onto a canvas with a sponge "brush." Each child will take home their own impressionistic landscape painting on a stretched canvas.
This toothsome theme offers a deliciously different take on still life. After looking at yummy fruit, pies, and other treats depicted in works on view, children will learn how to create their own "sweet art." Each child will take home their own still life painting on a stretched canvas.
Build a what? A robot! Drawing inspiration from artworks made from found objects and depicting machines, children will have an inventive time assembling a robot using a variety of materials. Each child will take home their own standing sculpture of a robot.
The Art of Disguise
In an art museum, nothing is as it seems. Children will fashion their own decorative masks, using a rich array of materials, after viewing artworks depicting people in costumes and masks. Wearing their masks, participants will practice "the art of disguise" in a fun parade through the Museum.
Bold colors, tantalizing textures, and the creative freedom of Abstract art inspire this merry-making paint experience. Children will discover examples of Abstract art in the galleries and the intriguing possibilities in painting without a brush. Each child will mix color on stretched canvas using a palette knife and brayer, and take home their own painting.
Designed especially for 12-16 year olds, this theme lets teens explore the subject of their dreams and learn why artists choose to depict theirs. In addition to collaborating on "exquisite corpses" for the celebrant, each teen will assemble their own surreal, free-standing sculpture using various creepy and bizarre objects.
