Below is a summary of field trip opportunities at the Museum, including Guided Tours, Self-Guided Visits and Art Narratives. It is recommended that you preview the artwork scheduled to be on view prior to visiting with your class.

 

Guided Tours
Led by trained Crocker docents, guided tours incorporate works from the permanent collection and selected special exhibitions. Classes and groups can choose from one of six themed guided tours based on age group. Tours are adapted to suit all grade levels and designed to satisfy the California State Standards. Date & Time Availability:
Tuesday-Friday at 10 AM and 11 AM
Afternoons and weekends scheduled according to docent availablity.

Duration:
50 minutes

Group Size & Chaperones:
64 students maximum with 1 chaperone for every 8 students

Fees:
When booked in advance, Museum tours are free for youth groups in Sacramento County and $2 for groups from other counties. Required chaperones are free, and additional chaperones are $4.

 

Art Narratives
In this new program, students will develop poems, short narratives and expository compositions in response to artwork in the Crocker’s permanent collection and special exhibitions. Students will learn how to “read” works of art and gain a stronger understanding of literary devices. This program is designed to fulfill the Writing, Listening and Speaking Strategies portion of the English-Language Arts Standards.

Tuesday through Friday after NOON

Duration
75 minutes

Group Size & Chaperones
Maximum group size is 32 students, and one chaperone is required for every eight students.

Fees:
When booked in advance, this program is $3 per student for groups from Sacramento County and $5 per student for groups from other counties. Required chaperones are free, and additional chaperones are $4 per person.

 

Self-Guided Visits
To lead your own group through the galleries, you may schedule a self-guided visit. Touring materials are available for download from our website at Striking Gold.

Date & Time Availability:
Tuesday-Friday NOON – 4 PM, Saturday and Sunday 10 AM-4 PM

Group Size & Chaperones:
60 students maximum with 1 chaperone for every 6 students

Fees:
When booked in advance, Museum tours are free for youth groups in Sacramento County and $2 for groups from other counties. Required chaperones are free, and additional chaperones are $4.

 

After-School Activities
The Crocker offers an After-School Program for school and community groups of students ages 6-15. Held onsite at the Museum, the 60-minute program is designed to excite and inspire budding artists. Students will receive a guided interactive tour.

Groups must confirm transportation at the time of reservations and arrive at the Museum no later than 4 PM. Contact Emma Moore at 916.808.1961 for more information or to make a reservation.

Group Size & Chaperones:
30 students maximum with 1 chaperone for every 6 students

Fees:
When booked in advance, Museum tours are free for youth groups in Sacramento County and $2 for groups from other counties. Required chaperones are free, and additional chaperones are $4. Title I schools and eligible community groups are fully funded by the Odyssey Foundation.
