For classes and groups that are unable to visit the Museum or want to extend their field trip experience, the Crocker offers two options that bring high quality art education experiences to K-12 classrooms. Crocker-to-Go presentations and Artist-to-Go workshops can also be scheduled in tandem with a field trip or in conjunction with a visit from the Art Ark. Students receive a Gencorp Free Family Pass enabling them to visit the Museum at a later date with their family.


Crocker-to-Go
Crocker-to-Go is designed to bring high quality art education experiences to K-12 classrooms, particularly to students unable to tour the Museum in person. Crocker docents engage students with an interactive presentation of works from the Crocker’s collection. Students are introduced to strategies for looking at and making meaning of art.

Participating teachers receive a Teacher Preview Pass for free admission for the teacher and a guest, educational resource materials and an art poster for their classroom. Each student receives a free family pass to the Crocker. A Crocker-to-Go presentation can be scheduled as an isolated program, in tandem with a visit to the Museum or in conjunction with the Art Ark. A limted number of full and partial fee waivers are also available for Title I schools

Choose from one of four Crocker-to-Go presentations:

  • An Introduction to Art – Students are introduced to diverse works of art and learn how artists use the basic elements of art (line, color, shape, pattern, texture and space) to create drawings, paintings, sculptures, collages, prints and more.
  • California: Then & Now –With an emphasis on California’s rich and dynamic history, this Crocker-to-Go features works by 19th, 20th and 21st-century California artists depicting social change, community life and the diverse cultures and traditions found in California.
  • Art Through the Ages –Students travel the world and back in time through art, learning about ancient civilizations, diverse cultures and traditions.
  • American History Through Art – Students will explore how artists have used art to capture, question and probe important historical, social and political milestones in American history.

Scheduled according to docent availability Monday – Friday 10 AM-5 PM

Group Size & Chaperones:
35 students; no chaperones necessary

Fees:
$20 per grade level (up to 3 classes)

 

Artist-to-Go
Artist-to-Go provides students with the opportunity to learn about the Crocker’s permanent collection through an interactive, hands-on art project taught in your classroom. Each workshop is anchored in the Visual Arts content standards while supporting standards from Math, History or English-Language Arts.

Presentations last approximately 90 minutes and cost $175 per classroom, with discounts available for multiple bookings. Maximum group size is 35 students. The fee includes instruction, supplies, Free Family Passes for students, a Teacher Preview Pass and a Striking Gold Resource Packet.

Choose from one of four Artist-to-Go presentations:

  • Perspective Drawing Workshop –Create the illusion of space and volume through one-point and two-point perspective drawings, focusing on space, proportion and volume, and discuss the relationship between
    art and architecture.
  • Symbolism & Printmaking – Discover the hidden meanings and visual metaphors within art, and create relief prints infused with personal symbolism.
  • California's Landscapes –Experience the history of California through 19th and 20th century landscape paintings and create a landscape using torn and layered paper collage.
  • Pattern Play –Learn about patterns, shape and composition by creating twodimensional or three-dimensional mixed media works.
