Mix It Up Every Second Thursday at Art Mix
A Museum program that fuses art, film, music, and mingling

Sacramento, Calif. – April 18, 2012 – Anyone can mix and mingle at Art Mix, a monthly blend of music, art, creativity, and cocktails every second Thursday from 5 – 9 PM. Each Art Mix blends a hot theme, cool drinks, live music or a DJ, art-making, art talks, and lots of artful entertainment. Art Mix is part of the Crocker’s Thursdays ‘til 9 program series.

Art Mix themes range from what’s up in the Museum’s galleries to local and global happenings. At Pride Mix on June 14, everyone is invited to celebrate Gay Pride Month with a fabulous mix of live entertainment and activities for the whole community. Attendees can enjoy performances by the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus and the Badlands Drag Review. Visitors can also try their luck at Drag Queen Bingo, hosted by “Outword” magazine, strike a pose in a photo booth, and express themselves with a colorful mosaic-making activity. Participants will make connections at a LGBTQ Community Resource Fair and learn more about works by LGBTQ artists in the galleries on docent-led tours. Parents with children five and under are invited to attend the Families Like Ours Social and visit Tot Land.

On Thursday, July 12, the Crocker gets into the avant-garde spirit of studio-glass artists at Red Hot & Bohemian Mix, a bash celebrating the exhibition “Red Hot and Blown: Contemporary Glass from the Crocker’s Collection.” The event includes live music and docent-led gallery tours featuring a variety of three-dimensional works. Visitors can watch behind-the-scenes footage of the beloved opera “La Bohème” playing in the galleries. To top the night off, “La Bohème” (2008, 123 minutes, NR), presented in collaboration with the Mondavi Center, will play on the big screen across the street from the Museum in Crocker Park.

In August, Fired Up Mix turns up the heat with a spicy pairing of international ceramics and local cuisine. Evening eats will be served up by Sacramento’s mobile food trucks. Then in September, Va Va Vroom Mix will satiate any cravings for the “other pop delights” of Ramos-inspired hot rods and haute couture.
